AGC Charities Disaster Assistance
AGC Charities Disaster Assistance Matching Fund
Objective
AGC Charities establishes a new, dedicated Disaster Assistance Matching Fund. This fund does two things:
-
Rapidly supports employees of member firms and their families who are harmed by a significant man-made or natural disaster, with the help of strategic AGC partners who provide equipment, tools, and resources.
-
Rapidly supports the industry’s charitable efforts to help communities rebuild and recover from significant man-made or natural disasters, with the help of strategic AGC partners who provide equipment, tools, and resources.
This is a matching fund, available to all member firms and AGC chapters based on need and their ability to match, dollar for dollar, AGC Charities’ contributions in support of the effort.
The intent is to give a broader range of firms and AGC chapters an incentive to contribute to AGC Charities and to maintain a ready reserve of funds available to support the construction community and surrounding communities when they need assistance following a significant disaster.
How the Fund Works
AGC first solicits contributions to the fund from its Capstone Supporters who have an interest in supporting—and being recognized for—helping the industry and communities respond to significant man-made and natural disasters.
Depending on the success of this initial round of funding, AGC Charities launches a larger, nationwide fundraising effort targeting members and industry supporters. In addition to funding, AGC Charities asks key suppliers to commit to donating a range of in-kind services to be used during natural disasters.
AGC Charities works to educate chapters and members about opportunities to access the matching fund when a significant natural or man-made disaster occurs in their area.
When a significant disaster occurs, AGC Charities consults with the appropriate local chapter(s) and member(s) to determine whether there is a need for the group to submit an application for disaster matching funds. If an application is received, the Board holds a virtual session to decide whether to issue the matching grant.
Once AGC Charities issues a matching grant, it records the impact of the funds on the local community and its recovery efforts. The organization uses that information to educate the media, policymakers, members, and chapters about the support AGC Charities provides on behalf of the commercial construction industry.
