2017 Autodesk Operation Opening Doors Project
NATIONAL CONSTRUCTION GROUP TO TEAM UP WITH YOUNG CONSTRUCTORS FORUM OF THE NEVADA CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION TO RENOVATE FACILITY FOR THE HOMELESS AND CLUB HOUSE FOR LOCAL YOUTH SUPPORT PROGRAM
Volunteer Contractors to Renovate Facility for CARE, a Homeless Support Center and Club House for Gentlemen By Choice, a Local Youth Support Program as Part of the AGC Charities-Autodesk 2017 Operation Opening Doors Effort
AGC Charities Inc. is teaming up with the Young Constructors Forum of the Nevada Contractors Association for its 2017 Autodesk Operation Opening Doors Project. Young construction professionals will renovate facility for the homeless and club house for local youth support program.
For the first project, dozens of young construction professionals representing member firms from the Las Vegas area are teaming up to perform significant renovations to a homeless support center owned and operated by CARE. The group , is dedicated to helping transition people out of homelessness by providing a host of job placement services.
CARE owns a facility right on the main homeless strip north of downtown Las Vegas. The building lacks heat or air conditioning, has sub-optimal wiring and needs significant plumbing upgrades as well. CARE staff are dedicated to investing all of their donations into their homeless support services, instead of upgrading their building.
The young construction professionals, led by a project supervisor for McCarthy Builders, will improve wiring and plumbing for the facility, install HVAC, add additional parking and expand storage, and build out health care and changing facilities for CARE. AGC Charities is supporting the project by raising funds to cover items that can’t be donated. We are also looking for firms willing to donate keep materials, especially HVAC equipment.
For the second project, the young construction professionals will finish out the new club space for Gentlemen By Choice, a local not-for-profit that is dedicated to teaching key life skills for young men, especially young men of color. These skills include expanding their literary horizons, learning how to conduct professional conversations, how to act in interviews, how to dress for work environments and other skills, such as proper table etiquette. Founded by a local elementary school teacher, the group is operating out of a mostly-abandoned strip mall.
The young construction professionals will install audio video equipment, library shelving, new lighting and “Starbucks-like” furniture at the club house. The idea is to create a learning space that young adults will not want to leave. AGC Charities is looking for cash donations to cover items that can’t be donated, audio video equipment and new lighting.
