Swinerton Builder
Child Advocacy Center – Central Islip, NY – E.W. Howell, Co., Inc.
The Child Advocacy Center is dedicated to the care of child victims of physical and sexual abuse. E.W. Howell was responsible for building a new facility while not interrupting the operation of the existing facility. In the end, the firm completed the new facility while only have to close the existing one for two days. Not only did many of E.W. Howell’s employees work at no cost, but a lot of their subcontractors also donated their time and materials to complete the project.
Turner Construction Company
Leadership Turner Community Service Program – Ohio – Turner Construction Company
Among the activities Turner Construction Company employees in Ohio were involved with were helping to renovate residences surrounding the Columbus’ Nationwide Children’s Hospital. In addition, Turner sent a team to Strongsville to make needed repairs and improvements to Camp Cheerful, a camp serving children and adults with disabilities. Another Turner team transformed a 2.5 acre underutilized patch of land into a park and memorial to honor firefighters in the greater Cincinnati area.
Master Builders’ Association
MBA Young Constructors Annual Toy Drive – Pittsburgh, PA – Master Builders’ Association
Master Builders’ Association Young Constructors wanted to unite the entire construction community in Western Pennsylvania for a holiday reception, but they did not want to just throw a party – they wanted to benefit a charity in the process. In 2010, the group hosted its 4th annual MBA Young Constructors Holiday Party to benefit the Toys for Tots Foundation. To date, they have raised more than $24,000 and donated 800 toys. The party unites 200 professionals from all sectors and levels of the industry, from jobsite laborers to CEOs of large corporations.
Barnhart Balfour Beatty
Project Home Improvement – San Diego, CA – Barnhart Balfour Beatty
Project Home Improvement was designed to support the needs of active duty military families in the San Diego area, a heavily populated military community. The original plan was to help one military family but the company instead chose six families to help because of the enormous need. Projects ranged from yard work and sprinkler system repairs to plumbing, painting, electrical repairs and one family received an entirely remodeled kitchen.
