Flatiron Construction
Bridges to Prosperity

bridges for prospFlatiron Construction teamed up with Turner and E.E. Cruz to build three much-needed footbridges in Nicaragua as part of the Bridges to Prosperity program. In three rural communities, the rainy season created deep, swiftly moving rivers that were dangerous or impossible to cross. In Santa Lucia, a team of 35 employees built a 220-foot suspension bridge over the Rio Pire; in El Rodeo, they built a 230-foot suspension bridge over Quebrada La Majada River; and in Jucuapa, they built a 150-foot suspension bridge. The new bridges will serve thousands of residents and provide safe access to schools, doctors and work year-round. Flatiron has partnered with Bridges to Prosperity since 2009, and provides funding and logistical support for employees to travel abroad and complete these volunteer projects.

Kokosing Construction Company, Inc.
Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields

The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League FieldsJoe Nuxhall set the record for the youngest player ever to play in a major league baseball game – at just 15 years old. Sixty-eight years later, the Miracle League Fields in Fairfield, Ohio, were dedicated. The two-field handicap-friendly baseball complex serves children and adults with disabilities, disabled veterans, and senior citizens. Kokosing Construction Company met the challenge of building baseball fields with special requirements that allowed for both drainage and ease of wheelchair use. Skilled volunteers utilized GPS enabled grading equipment to erect 128 feet of preassembled walls and four dugout assemblies, which were set and anchored in place on the same day. These innovative methods allowed the Joe Nuxhall Foundation to deliver on its promise of a July 2012 completion date – a deadline on which many donations were contingent.

Lydig Construction
CLIMB

CLIMB to Fight Breast CancerLydig Construction raised $110,000 for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as part of the CLIMB to Fight Breast Cancer Event. SpawGlass Construction Corp.
Homes for Our Troops

Homes for Our TroopsWhen Corporal Daniel Peterson, a marine sniper, was left a double amputee after serving in Afghanistan, he needed special adaptations to his home. At the request of SpawGlass, many local subcontractors and suppliers agreed to contribute to the effort, including labor and supplies. AGC of Massachusetts
Rosie’s Place Renovation

Rosie's Place RenovationRosie’s Place, a refuge for low income and homeless women, was in need of a multiroom renovation. More than 70 volunteers from 38 AGC of Massachusetts member companies and industry allies completed the renovation in a 24-hour period. The short time frame required extensive planning, but allowed for no more than a 10-hour disruption in services to Rosie’s Place visitors. Each year, this facility serves 78,000 meals, provides a home to 600 women, and offers 1,000 support appointments. In addition, 1,800 women visit the food pantry regularly. In the end, eight separate areas were built, finished and painted, thanks to the hard work and planning of AGC staff, members, and other area volunteers.

AGC Puerto Rico
Hogar Cuna San Cristobal

Hogar Cuna San CristóbalThe Hogar Cuna San Cristobal is a transitory home for orphan children in Puerto Rico. The AGC Puerto Rico Assistance Committee provided $20,000 and recruited labor to install playground tiles. The chapter members contributed $127,000 and labor to complete construction of a new facility, including a new kitchen, hurricane safe windows, a solar power plant, and a parking lot. As the construction industry and the economy in general were struggling throughout this project, the Community Assistance Committee held creative fundraisers, including an auto show and silent bid auction. While the ultimate goal was to deliver a safe, nurturing environment for orphan children in Puerto Rico, the committee was also successful in spreading happiness and satisfaction to chapter members and staff.
