MEMBER WINNERS:

40 for 40 Community Service Challenge

Caddell Construction

Alabama Statewide, Nationwide

In honor of Caddell’s 40th anniversary, the firm’s executive leadership challenged each project team, corporate office and support department to perform at least 40 hours of community service in their local area between June and December 2023. President and CEO Mac Caddell wanted this initiative to reinforce the company’s key tenets, known as “The Caddell Way.” In total, more than 300 employees, family members and trade partners volunteered, completing more than 1,500 hours of service work across 36 different charities worldwide. These charities included food banks, land cleanup, animal welfare, disaster relief, and more, in 11 states, Guam, the Bahamas and Mexico. Many volunteers have continued their service after the official challenge ended.

CHAPTER WINNER:

Anna’s Homes

Inland Northwest AGC – Construction Leadership Council

Spokane, Washington

In partnership with the Anna Schindler Foundation, the chapter’s Construction Leadership Council (CLC) helped to bring safe, accessible housing to child cancer patients and their families. The only single-family respite homes for pediatric oncology patients and their families in the entire region, Anna’s Homes provide a critical resource for patients who may live as many as six hours away from treatment. These homes help to provide consistent housing for patients and keep families together during treatment. Using unique fundraising opportunities to showcase construction technology, the CLC raised more than $18,000, and donated 900 hours of time to expand Anna’s homes from just two to six, completing a phase of the project that had previously been stalled. Using their construction expertise, expanded reach and access to funds, the CLC helped to officially kick off this project, and celebrated its groundbreaking last year.

Mary’s Haven

Associated General Contractors Oregon-Columbia Chapter

Talent, Oregon

Chapter members helped build southern Oregon’s first transitional housing facility for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. In the state, one in five homicides are due to domestic partner violence, and Community Works is the only intervention and prevention agency in Jackson County, supporting 3,000 adults and children. Members volunteered to design and build a new 5,500-square-foot, secure two-story facility that includes 12 family units, a play area, healing gardens, and an administrative area for onsite staff. Members also solicitated donations and negotiated reduced pricing and donations from vendors. They also provided materials, labor and management services to complete Mary’s Haven apartments on time and under budget.
